Useful Information
PE
Our PE days are Monday and Thursday.
Forest School
Sessions take place on a Wednesday morning. Children need a change of trousers, a good, warm waterproof coat and wellies.
Reading
Read, read, read! Reading is extremely important and we value it highly. It is a major focus in Year One. It would greatly help your child if you listen to your child read at least 3 times a week for 5 minutes. We will change books every week (Friday). We use the Little Wandle scheme for reading. We will listen to your child read 3 times each week in a small group. Some children might need extra support and will become our daily readers.
Your child will have a sheet of ‘Grow the Code’ and tricky words in their reading record. If you could find time to practise these also we would greatly appreciate it.
Reading Morning: Each week we hold a reading morning on a Tuesday and Thursday at 8.45am. This is the opportunity for the children and their adult to spend 10 minutes reading in the classroom together.
Reading Raffle: Every time 5 times your child reads their name is entered into a reading raffle. At the end of each half term the raffle is drawn and the winner receives a hamper of goodies. The children also receive a stamp on their stamp card. For each row of stamps completed they win a prize from the golden box.
Parent’s raffle: every time you read to your child and record it in their reading journal, your name will also be entered into a raffle to win a £5 Costa voucher at the end of the half term.
