World Book Day

7 February 2022 (by admin)

4th February 2022

Dear Parents / Carers,

On Thursday the 3rd March, the whole school will be celebrating World Book Day. World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. The main aim of the day is to encourage children to discover their love for books.

As part of the celebration, we are asking every pupil to come to school dressed as their favourite book character and bring along their favourite book (there will be a prize for the best dressed child in Early Years, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two).

We guarantee that the children will take part in a variety of exciting activities that further promote a love of reading and writing.

To add a touch more excitement to the day, we will be holding Featherstone All Saints’ first poetry recital competition. This will involve the children learning a poem in their own class and choosing an individual poem to recite. The two best poets from each class will be chosen to compete against the other classes in school for a chance to win the main prize: a £25 Amazon voucher and selection of reading goodies.

If you would like to help your child be as successful as possible, help them to choose a poem they love and practise their reading at home out loud until they are confident and they know it by heart. If they would like to add actions for entertainment, this would be even better. I’ve attached a list of poems that they might like to choose from.

The first stage of the competition will be on Wednesday 2nd March and if your child is chosen for the poetry recital final, it will be held on Thursday 3rd March.

Many thanks in advance for your support and preparing your child for the day.

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.

Kind regards,

Mrs Newbegin
